Born December 21, 1933, in Charlottesville he was the eldest son of William Jefferson and Julia Huffman Kidd. He graduated from Lovingston High School where he excelled in many sports. Read More	Wilson Wayne Kidd, 78, of Piney River passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at the home of his daughter with his family by his side. Born December 21, 1933, in Charlottesville he was the eldest son of William Jefferson and Julia Huffman Kidd. He graduated from Lovingston High School where he excelled in many sports. Wilson and Margaret Wood Kidd were married on March 31, 1956 and from this union there was one daughter, Patricia Kidd Massie. His parents, his wife Margaret, his brother Roger Kidd, and sister-in-law, Lorene Massie and brother-in-laws, Ronald and Billy Wood, precede him in death. Those left to mourn his passing include his wife of 16 years, Ardenia, daughter Patricia and her husband Ricky, two grandchildren, Brandi Massie and husband Danny and Jason Ebersole and his wife Kelly, two very special great-grand- daughters, Aubrey and Katelynn, a sister, Janice Matthews and husband, Curtis, a brother Marshall Kidd and wife Frances (Sis), step-sons, Billy Thompson and his wife Susan, Terry Thompson and his wife, Ada, and six step grand- children, Kasey, Rachel, Megan, Cody, Wayne, and William. He also leaves in laws, Lincoln and Regina Cash, Willie and Lancie Campbell, Carroll and Kathy Wood, Phyllis Kidd, Patricia Wood, Marie Robey and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends as well as special friends, Miles and Diane Edwards and their family of Hampton, VA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving four active years during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Robert A. Owen, followed by four years in the Naval Reserves. Wilson worked at the Truck Body Corporation in Lynchburg for several years. He then relocated to Hampton, VA and retired from the New Port News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock after 28 years of service. While in Hampton he enjoyed coaching his nephews Little League Football team. After retiring he returned to "the mountains" and was active in service to his community through the Massies Mill Ruritan Club serving as Treasurer and President and assisting with fundraising for the club often manning "the grill" at the annual carnival and local fall festivals. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Piney River Volunteer Fire Department and helped organize several annual Chitterling dinners often spending days preparing with his "chittlin" pickers. He also enjoyed helping the fire department make many pots of apple butter. Wilson participated in Relay For Life activities to support the fight against cancer, a cause near to his heart. He was a dedicated employee of Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel in Lovingston for over 12 years. Wilson accepted Christ as his savior at his child- hood church, Oak Hill Baptist Church on Davis Creek in Myndus, VA where he served as the Sunday School Superintendent for many years and later got great enjoyment out of traveling and singing gospel music with the Davis Creek Boys. He was an active member of Piney River Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher, Royal Ambassadors and Youth Group leaders and sang in the church choir. He enjoyed his gardening, spending time outdoors and attending bluegrass and gospel concerts. His favorite travels included trips with his family and friends to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, often stopping at every Cracker Barrel restaurant he would find along the way. His most enjoyment in life came from spending precious time with his family especially his great-granddaughters. The family would like to thank the staffs of Hospice of the Piedmont, Blue Ridge Medical Center in Arrington, VA, Centra Health and The University of Virginia Medical Center for all of the wonderful care they provided as well as the support and prayers of family and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Oak Hill Baptist Church with Rev. John Campbell, Rev. Jason Canipe and Rev. Bryan Painter officiating. Interment will follow in the Jonesboro Cemetery at Roseland. Published in The News & Advance on February 28, 2012
