He had been employed as a drywall foreman for Chesapeake Plastering Company, and worked many years for E. Caligari & Son and Shaw Paint Companies. He was a member of Piney River Baptist Church. Born in Amherst County, Feb. 26, 1922, he was a son of the late Charles Beard Massie and Lucy G. Massie. He had been employed as a drywall foreman for Chesapeake Plastering Company, and worked many years for E. Caligari & Son and Shaw Paint Companies. He was a member of Piney River Baptist Church. Wingfield was an avid gardener, sportsman, musician, and enjoyed his hobby as an amateur gunsmith. He is survived his beloved wife, Josie Campbell Massie; a stepdaughter, Susie Marie Williams (Willie) of Newport News; one brother, Talmadge Massie of Roseland; numerous step grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two stepsons, Ray and Willard Stratton; two stepdaughters, Girlie McClurg and Frances Smith; five brothers, Clifton, Jeff, Wayne, Zane and Carroll; two sisters, Catherine Nelson and Lucy Brent; and a infant brother, Charles. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home, Roseland, by the Rev. W.T. Wright, with burial in Jonesboro Cemetery.
