And Monroe had it's share of women workers overseas. The Ouachita chapter of the American Red Cross lists four women overseas with the Red Cross and two are performing important tasks nationally. Winnie Graham Breard, recently married to Charles Reichler and establishing her home in Switzerland, was with the famed Rainbow Club of England for some time, and later was stationed in Parish, France. Others were Janice Shepard, Marilyn June Nelson, and Mary Virginia Yancey. Monroe News-Star (Monroe, Louisiana) Mon - 17 Aug 1953 pg1 PROMINENT LOCAL WOMAN IS FATALLY HURT IN ILLINOIS An anticipated reunion of mother and son was tragically prevented when Mrs. Winnie Graham Breard Reichler, 33, was fatally injured when the car she was driving collided with a train in the suburbs of Springfield, Illinois, Sunday about 11 am. Rushed to a hospital in that city she failed to rally and died at 2:30pm Sunday. The body of Mrs. Reichler will be sent to Monroe over a Missouri Pacific train, arriving here about midnight Tuesday. The funeral will be held a St. Matthew's church Wednesday at 9 am. Mrs. Reichler, widely known as the former Winnie Graham Breard, for her unusual ability as musician and also for her talent in the knowledge of languages, in which she exhibited usually proficiency, was born in the old Breard home, her parents being the late Mr. and Mrs. Hipolyte Filhiol Breard. She was accorded all possible educational advantages locally, in northern universities and abroad. She had just returned from a trip to Switzerland, where she had gone to continue her advanced studies, and while away, she had left her only child, Robbie, age seven years, with close friends in Alton, Illinois. Driving her own car, she was taking a trip from Springfield to Alton to rejoin her little son when the accident occurred. She had flown to New York from overseas early last week. Winnie married Charles Reichler of Fribourg, Switzerland. Can find very little in the newspapers as many issues are not available online. A deep friendship existed between this uncle and his niece, it was stated. She was highly esteemed for her scholarly attainments.
