On Friday after a long and weary struggle with the "white plague" — consumption — Mrs Godell yielded to that dread monster by bidding all she loved and held dear on earth a long farewell. For a number of years the deceased had been suffering from the disease and her husband and parents have done all they could hoping to restore her to health. With this object in view they spent the winter previous to the last in New Mexico. Last summer it waa thought she was some better and visited at the lakes, but as fall came on she grew weaker and weaker, and for the past few months has been, practically, a helpless invalid. Miss Winnie Heffelfinger was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs U.S. Heffelfinger and grew from girlhood to womanhood in our city. She was a bright, charming young lady and enjoyed a wide circle of friends who held her in high esteem. She was still in her youth being but twenty-six years old, but like many thousands in our state, fell a victim to consumption and her young life faded away. About six years ago she was united in marriage to Ralph Godell at the home of her parents in this city. Life then was full of hope and promise but it was soon shortened and during the past few years she gradually failed and on last Sunday was laid to rest in the city cemetery. The deceased was living at Botna with her husband and parents at the time of her death. On Sunday morning she funeral services were held at Botna and the remains, accompanied by the husband and the parents, were brought to this city on the 10:30 train and taken to the cemetery. A short burial service was held at the grave conducted by the minister of Botna, assisted by a quartette composed of E.V. Coffin, Ward Ellis, Misses Lillie and Thompson. The following relatives were present: The husband, Ralph Godell, the parents of the deceased, Mr. and Mrs. U.S. Heffelfinger, and her two sisters, Mrs. LA McAllister of Oelwein, and husband and Mrs. Nita DeMerseman of Minnesota; the husband's mother, Mrs. Godell of Tama; and a sister, Mrs Sullivan and husband of Council Bluffs; and a niece, Miss Hazel Pickett of Council Bluffs.
