Description	:	Services for Woodrow Thorpe Sturdy, 83, Vinland, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Vinland United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Vinland Cemetery. Mr. Sturdy died Monday, Oct. 21, 1996, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 19, 1912, in Vinland, the son of Lemuel and Mary Elizabeth Miller Sturdy. He was a lifelong resident of the Vinland community. He attended Coal Creek School and graduated in 1932 from Vinland High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a lifelong resident of the Vinland community. He attended Coal Creek School and graduated in 1932 from Vinland High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He farmed, was sexton of Vinland Cemetery, drove school buses for Baldwin school district and was chairman of the finance board at Vinland United Methodist Church. Mr. Sturdy was a Vinland Valley 4-H leader and was a past member of Vinland High School Board. He was a member of Vinland United Methodist Church, Vinland Grange, Lloyd Beaton Post No. 228 of the American Legion in Baldwin, where he was past commander, and Lawrence Bowling League. Mr. Sturdy married Helen Fritz Holcom on June 8, 1938, in Olathe. She survives of the home.
