(8 Oct 1941-19 Sep 1945) Abbreviated Life Story by Submitted by kcw214 "Known as "Wilson," Woodrow Wilson Daniel was born in a large, rural farming family. He and his entire family were avid musicians, and he could play the dobro, the guitar, and the violin, among other instruments. He played bluegrass, country, and folk music. He was drafted and served in World War II in Italy and other locations, and was shot in the chest and received a purple heart. When he returned home he married, bought a small house near Clarksville, Virginia, and worked at farming and later local factory work in the Clarksville, Virginia area for his working life. When his first wife, Grace Blanks, was killed suddenly in a car accident in 1966, he for some time became an alcoholic, however he eventually fully recovered, and did not touch alcohol for at least the last twenty years of his life. For his whole life he was a religious man who at times served as a deacon in his local Baptist church. He retired in Oxford, North Carolina, where he lived at the home originally occupied by his second wife, Ercell. He suffered in old age from diabetes, but he stayed active in many activities, including music performance. He also became very active in beekeeping. He kept numerous hives in his back yard and on the farms of many consenting farmers, and he eventually published articles on beekeeping in specialist magazines and newspapers. He also loved to fish in local ponds, and primarily used a bamboo pole with a simple cork, a hook and worm. Although he had relatively little formal education, he was always a very bookish man, who loved to read and learn. He died peacefully in May 1995 in his favorite armchair, with a book in his hands, after taking a walk to pick up a new book on the Bible that he had requested and which had just arrived at his local bookstore."
