Cary, aged 56 years, died at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mercy hospital in Iowa City, where he had been a patient for a week, following an operation. Mr. Cary was born March 14, 1875 in Rochester, the son of Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Cary. After his marriage he continued to live on a farm in Rochester community, retiring 14 years ago and moving to West Liberty where he had made his home on East Third street. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Cary, and an only daughter, Mrs. Helen Bullis and two children, Janice and Junior of Bennett. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Burial will be made in the Rochester cemetery. _____________________________________________________ 18 June 1931 - The West Branch Times Worthy W. Cary, son of Mary and Edward Cary, was born in Cedar county March 14, 1875, and passed away at the Mercy hospital at Iowa City June 9, 1931, at the age of 56 years, 2 months and 25 days. He was the only living child of a family of nine, the others dying in infancy. He was of a pioneer family, his father and mother crossing the country when the state was new. He grew to manhood near Rochester, Iowa, and in 1901 was united in marriage with Nannie Crees. To this union one child was born. They made their home on a farm near Rochester until 1916, when he moved with his family to West Liberty, Iowa, where he has since made his home. Mr. Cary was a dealer in livestock and so was well known in other communities outside of his home. He was always ready to help others and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In the spring of 1930 he underwent a surgical operation but results were not as hoped for and he has been rapidly failing since and on June 3, 1931, he submitted to another operation, surviving but a few days. He is survived by his widow and one daughter, Mrs. Helen Bullis, and two grandchildren, Janie Elaine and Maynard Bullis, of Bennett, Iowa, beside a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at his home in West Liberty and at 2:30 at the Rochester church. Interment was made in the Rochester cemetery.
