Cuba Tribune – Nov. 14, 1929 TWO-YEAR-OLD CHILD BURNS TO DEATH AT AURORA Zepherine Dandurand, the two-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Flavius Dandurand of Aurora was fatally burned Thursday evening when her clothing caught fire in the Dandurand farm home northeast of Aurora. The child died in a hospital at Concordia a few hours after being taken there. As the child was alone in the kitchen at the time of the tragedy, it is not known exactly in what manner her dress ignited. The fatal accident occurred about 6 o'clock that evening. Zephyrine had been on the kitchen floor, playing with a catalog, when her parents stepped out into the yard, leaving her alone. It is thought that the child tore some pages from the catalog and attempted to put them in the kitchen stove as she had seen her mother do when the flames caught her dress. She ran screaming into the yard, and Mr. Dandurand caught her up and tried to smother the blaze by wrapping his coat about her. The lower part of her body, her back and her face were burned, and she died about eleven o'clock Thursday night after being taken to the hospital. Zepherine was Dandurand's only child. Her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Letourneau, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Dandurand of Aurora also survive her.
