OBITUARY "West Point Republican", West Point, Cuming Co., Nebraska, June 25, 1909: DIES IN SOUTHLAND. "Death's chill hand touched Mrs. John Lawson in the home at Hereford, Texas at one o'clock last Friday afternoon, and in abiding faith and with the bravery of a true heart, she passed to the sweet repose of the blessed. Her health failing at El Reno, Oklahoma, a year ago, she was taken to Hereford in the hope that a change of climate would be beneficial. But, such hope was not realized and she became more and more frail. She suffered from appendicitis and an operation was finally decided upon. Her sister, Miss Zelma Briggs hurried to her bedside from the north and surrounded with relatives and friends, she faced the ordeal "more courageously" than any other person in all their experience. She rallied splendidly and seemed to be gaining strength , but the heart failed the next day and in a little while the gentle spirit was at rest. Zue Eva Lawson (nee Briggs) was born at this city, May 5, 1870, the daughter of Emory, deceased and Mary Briggs. Following the graduation from the local high school in 1896, she attended the University of Nebraska for a year and later after the removal of the family to Boulder, Colorado, attended the University of that place for two years. In the fall of (copy unreadable) she joined a married sister at El REno, Oklahoma and there on September, 16th (copy unreadable) she became the wife of John Lawson. There are no surviving children, the only child dying at birth in this city two years ago. The deceased was a young woman of exceptionally fine personality, modest, quiet, refined, she attracted a large circle of friends and held them by the sweetness of her disposition and the charm of her manner. . As a young woman she united with Grace Lutheran Church and those who knew her found in her a worthy example of the Christian life in this confession of faith she lived and labored devotedly for the advancement of the Church; in the same confession she died and passed to her reward. " Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord". The deceased leaves a mother & husband, two sisters and three brothers who will miss her in the different relationships of life and a host of friends who mourn her early demise. The body was brought to this city Monday by the husband and sister. Services in Grace Lutheran Church, Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Powell officiating. Internment [sic] in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Republican offers condolences. "
