Description	:	A monument to many unknown miners who perished in this area, including Chamounix (or Chamonix) and Potters gold mining townships, who mostly died during the "Great Storm" of 1863. It is unknown how many froze to death and perished in this area at this time. The Department of Conservation, NZ Government, has put out a leaflet with map on it, titled "A cruel environment yields gold." You can find it online.
