Description	:	Location: Section 18. at 1311 Yerian Road, on the west edge of Springfield Township, just east of the lower end of Evans Lake. On south side of road. The cemetery lies on private land, owned since 1972 by Chester and Linda Surgenavic. It is nicely cared for. History: The quarter of an acre of land was sold by the heirs of Henry Sprinkle (1772-1830) for the purpose of a graveyard to Joseph Sprinkle. History: The quarter of an acre of land was sold by the heirs of Henry Sprinkle (1772-1830) for the purpose of a graveyard to Joseph Sprinkle. David Sprinkle, and Jacob Leonhart, Trustees for the River Brethren Association on 24 March 1845 for the sum of one dollar.(1) It had already been used as a graveyard since 1830 when Henry Sprinkle was buried there on what was then his own land. Prior to the date of this deed in 1845 David and Elizabeth; and an infant son of Joseph and Mary (Polly on the deed). Apparently the cemetery before 1845 was a private farm cemetery for the Sprinkle family. No other documentation on the River Brethren in Springfield Township has come to light. (2) Almost all of the burials after 1850 are Paulins or Paulin-related, which suggest that the life of the River Brethern congregation in Springfield was brief and that the cemetery again became a private burying ground, this time for Paulins. It lay just west of the land of Elias Paulin, who was buried there in 1864 and his wife in 1870. The last burial for which a stone still exists was in 1893. The cemetery was copied in Jan 1981 by William T. Powers. It was rechecked the following spring and again in August 1994 by W. Powers and Jocelyn F. Wilms. (1) Mahoning Co. (2) The River Brethren, who first flourished near the Susquehanna River in Lancaster Co Pa, in the late 1700s, took their ideology from the German Lutheran Pietist movement. In the late 1800s they became the Brethren in Christ.
