Description	:	Abigail C. Anthony was born on August 30, 1809 in Lower Granville, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, British North America. She was the daughter of Joseph Anthony 3rd and Thankful Coleman. Note: Allen Bent's The Bent Family in America and Calnek's History of the County of Annapolis both cite her name as Susan Anthony. Abigail first married John Alfred Verge, son of Joseph Verge, on March 9, 1826 in Granville. They were united by licence in a ceremony performed by Rev. H. Nelson Arnold, Missionary at Granville. Abigail first married John Alfred Verge, son of Joseph Verge, on March 9, 1826 in Granville. They were united by licence in a ceremony performed by Rev. H. Nelson Arnold, Missionary at Granville. Alfred's age at the time is unknown but Abigail was 16 years of age. Note: The Granville Township Book cites the date of marriage as 8 March 1827. However, this date is not correct. Wayne Walker located an All Saints Anglican Parish marriage registration giving the date as 9 March 1826, as well as a marriage bond with that date. Furthermore, if the marriage had taken place on 8 March 1827, that would be a mere 12 days before the birth of their first child. She was widowed, at age 23, on January 25, 1833 by the death of Alfred. They had been married for almost 7 years. Eleven years later Abigail married Elias Bent, son of Samuel Bent Sr and Rachel Ray, and widower of Mary Ann VanBlarcom, on September 24, 1844 in Granville. The ceremony was performed by Rev. J. M. Campbell, Missionary at Granville. She was again widowed, at age 69, on November 17, 1878 by the death of Elias, to whom she had been married for 34 years. Abigail died, at age 81, on March 23, 1891 in Granville and she was laid to rest in Wadeville Cemetery, Granville Centre. CHILDREN Abigail had three daughters by her first marriage to John Alfred Verge, namely, Margaret Ann, Thankful and Eliza. With her second husband, Elias Bent, she had three sons, namely, William E., Alfred James and Charles Elias. OBITUARY Weekly Monitor, Bridgetown, Nova Scotia - April 1, 1891 - Page 2 "Died at Granville on the 23rd ult., Abigail, widow of the late Elias Bent, in the 82nd year of her age. Her remains were interred in the Bent burial ground on Thursday the 26th, when a funeral sermon was preached to a very large and sympathizing audience by the Rector of the Parish, Rev. H.
