The deceased was born in Allen County and her maiden name was Curtis. She lived to the age of 57 years and is survived bv her husband, one son Frank Houtzer—and of Daughter—Mrs Viola Smith. Funeral services will be conducted at Grace1 Methodist church bv the. Rev. W. J. Hagerman, at 2' o clock Wednesday, internment will be made in Woodlawn Cemetery. Curtis Family history: Curtiss in England and early America then turned to Curtis when they move to Allen Co, OH about 1840- Family history is on FAG back to 1515 since this family is one of the research early colonial CT families, see FAG 341280973 to go back in that tree. ROBINSON family still to be researched but it appears they live in CT until 1828-1834 when they move to Trumbull Co, OH. Adah Elnora, named after her mother and grandmother, fa. Granderson Curtis, b. 1817,CT, d. 1873, her mother, Adah Elvira? ROBINSON, b. 1821, CT, d. 1857 OH, supposedly, both buried Sproat Cem. Adah was the daughter of Erastus Robinson and Adah Skinner who lived in CT then Farmington, Trumbull Co, OH and had 2 other daughters: Emaline (found 1850 living with her grandmother Ada Skinner) who married Shurburn Granger in 1852 and Eunice marriage at Fa rmington, Trumbull Co, OH on 1-01-1834 to Granderson's brother, Jerome. Eunice and Adah stangely both died 1857. The Curtiss's moved from CT to Farmington, OH early 1828-'34 per marriage of Eunice, Adah and Granderson married, 1-1-1839 Allen Co, sadly he would leave his family of 5 after the 1850 Washington, Van Wert Co., OH census, about 1854 birth of Saphronia, for Oregon and not return while his wife dies and children Chauncey, Adah, Lucien and toddler Granderson Jr , and Sophronia were orphaned. According to grandaughter, Viola Houtzer-Smith memoirs, Adah's mother and baby brother die, even when she was alive and sick, Adah and siblings were sent to live with other families or relatives, working "for their keep". According to family memoirs, Adah lives with several families; a family who had about 10 children and sickly mother "worked her to death" scrubbing floors, withholding education, Adah had to carry the mother on her back to move her around, so mother came to remove Adah from that situation, then Aunt Emaline (Sherburn) Granger in Bath, Allen Co., (mother's sister) with grandmother, Ada Skinner next door, until she meets Robert Houtzer and marries 1869. Mother Adah, brother Granderson Jr, and Aunt Eunice Curtiss died abt 1857. 1848 Lima OH an Adah Elnora Curtis has 40 acres in upper Sanduskey, Ohio. Her father, Granderson, is found 1860 in Williamsburgh, Josephine Co, OR, which is 31 miles west of Medford, OR, listed occupation is merchant, living with 2 males, a baker and a miner, most of the 7 page census are miners, no other Curtis' altho several Ohioans live there . He will sometime move 540 miles NE to Union, OR, near the ID border, and remarried 3-29-1871 at Union, Union Co., Oregon to Mary J. Knight, b. 1840 NC, - at the house of her brother, Robert R. Knight- the Knight brothers, Joseph and Robert, moved to OR 1865 from Macon Co, MO after their parents died. Grandison died 1873, in OR or OH? His is buried in OH. Grandison's 2nd widow remarried to a widower man, Richard Fowler, who they must have known in Oregon, that couple moving to Victor, MT. 1850 Washington, Van Wert Co, OH: with parents 1860 Bath, Allen Co, OH: age 15 lives with with Aunt Granger, Adah and Robert married, 12-5-1869 by A.R. Krebs in Allen Co.. 1870, they live in Lima next door to his brother Valentine Houtzer, 1880 I haven't found them, newspaper in 1878 lists them living on Metcalf St., daughter, Viola's, memories states they lived on east High St., then on 5 acres, 2 miles west of Lima for 2 years, then moved to Pine St. by 1885 and children attended Lincoln School. Pine St / Kibby St had been farmland until late 1890's when Robert and his brother, Franklin, build new houses next door to each other. Their descendants will live next to each other for 60 years. They had 5 children; 3 lived, Charles, Franklin and Viola. 1900, age 56, he and wife are living with son, Charles at 544 S. Pine St (near Albert St), in Lima. son, Charles, dies in July, 1904 at work when timber shoots backward into his heart and Adah dies from cancer three months later, husband Robert moves next door to son, Franklin, home at 542 S. Pine St until his November, 1919 death. Franklin lives until 1944, Viola lives until 1955, both of Lima, OH
