CALDWELL, who had resided in this city for many years and had a wide acquaintance in this county, died here Friday morning, after an illness of several months. He was born in Wayne county, Ind., in 1839, the eldest of a family of thirteen children. His parents removed to Lee county, this state, in 1843, where he grew to manhood. In 1864 young CALDWELL enlisted in Company E, forty-fifth Iowa infantry, and he had a creditable record as a soldier. He was married to Samanatha J. McCLURE in Clark county, Mo., in 1868, and was the father of four children, three of whom are now living. Mrs. CALDWELL died in this city twelve years ago. The family came to this county in 1876 and to this city in 1878. Mr. CALDWELL was a good man and citizen and old friends and neighbors will mourn his death. The remains were interred in this city Saturday afternoon, Rev. J. F. Magill conducting the funeral services. ------- Note: not sure who the fourth child was. At this time, only three children are accounted for. Any clarification would be appreciated.
