Description	:	Del, as he was always called by friends and family, was born and grew up in Dubuque County, Iowa. His father was an oculist (eye doctor) but the family also lived on a farm that Del and his brothers worked. He later worked as a liveryman and then went into the grocery business. Over the years, he ran general stores in several locations. In 1874 he married Emma McNary in Dubuque County and they then moved to Plymouth County, Iowa. Read More	Del, as he was always called by friends and family, was born and grew up in Dubuque County, Iowa. His father was an oculist (eye doctor) but the family also lived on a farm that Del and his brothers worked. He later worked as a liveryman and then went into the grocery business. Over the years, he ran general stores in several locations. In 1874 he married Emma McNary in Dubuque County and they then moved to Plymouth County, Iowa. In the 1880 census, Del is listed as a farmer, so he was apparently farming when they first arrived there. They had two daughters--Adelsia was born in 1877 and died in January 1881. Lola was born in 1880 and died in December 1881. Then Emma died two years later in 1883. (Lola is not buried in Riverside Cemetery. The family had moved to Minnehaha County in South Dakota during the summer of 1881, so she is presumably buried there. Del's father died in Minnehaha County in July 1881, so she may have been buried in the same plot with him.) In 1891, still living in Plymouth County, Del married Vannie Sanford, whose family was also involved in the grocery business. Vannie had come to Akron from her previous home to work in a grocery business. Del and Vannie had one child, Rae, who died when she was five and a half. Del and Vannie continued to live in Plymouth County for the rest of their lives until Del went to live in a state hospital in Scott County after Vannie's death. Vannie died in 1926, Del in 1929. Although they have no direct descendants, both Del and Vannie had siblings who had quite a few children and carried on the Wilson and Sanford family lines. NOTE: There is a significant difference between the plot number listed in the IAGenWeb transcription and the cemetery's labeling of the section. The section signs placed by the cemetery identify this as Section 2.
