She was born near Dusseldorf, Germany, and was married to John Himmelburg (sic) July 26, 1866. They came to America the following year, her age at the time being about 18, and they lived a short time at Buffalo, N.Y., later moving to Cleveland, Ohio, finally moving to Iowa City, Iowa, where they also resided a few years, coming to Nebraska in 1872, where they took a homestead in Webster county (sic), located about five miles southwest of Lawrence where she has lived for fity-one years. Her husband died eleven years ago, and since his death she has continued to live on the old home farm with her daughter, Mrs. John Lemke, where for all these many years she has toiled 'mid the hardships of the pioneer and was at last rewarded with the happiness of a good home, the rearing of the family, had been blessed with rugged health; and like so many of those who have been called before her she had been instrumental in making the virgin prairies grow with the grains from which mankind is fed and now leaves as an imperishable heritage the noble example of a Christian life well spent and the beauty of motherhood again dignified. She was permitted to live to see the full fruition of her life's work and in the end was happily surrounded by her children and her children's children to the fourth generation. Of her family surviving, there are four daughters, Mrs. Sam Burch of Glasco, Kansas; Mrs. Harman (sic) Lemke, Mrs. Jake Herz, and Mrs. John Lemke, all of Lawrence; and one son, John Himmelburg (sic), also of Lawrence.
