Father Stutz. ======================= The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, July 18, 1957 The Rosary was recited at 8 o'clock Sunday evening in Sacred Heart Church in Lawrence for Mrs. John Lemke, a lifetime resident of the community who died at her home early last Friday. Services were held at the church, Monday morning at 9 o'clock with Monsignor F.L. Sherman officiating, and burial was made in St. Stephen's cemetery (sic) south of Lawrence. Mrs. Lemke, who was 80 years of age at the time of her death, is survived by her husband; sons and daughters, John G., Tony, Albert, Mrs. Alois Kohmetscher and Mrs. Emma Beyke, all of Lawrence; 16 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren, and her sister, Mrs. Anna Herz, also of Lawrence. ==================== The Lawrence Locomotive (Lawrence, NE), Thursday, July 18, 1957; pg. 1 MRS JOHN LEMKE, SR. PASSED AWAY FRIDAY Funeral services were held Monday morning at nine o' clock at Sacred Heart Church for Mrs. John Lemke Sr. Msgr. F.L. Sherman offered the High Mass of Requiem and officiated at the Interment services in St. Stephens cemetery (sic). Serving the Mass were two grandsons Tommy Lemke and Gary Beyke. Mrs. Lemke passed away Friday, July 12at ten 'o'clock A. M. at her home in Lawrence following an illness of several month' having been stricken with cerebral hemorrhage on May 5. She had been in failing health for the last three years. She was one of the first children born in this community. Her eighty years residence earned for her the respect and honor of everyone in the community. Her Interest, her joy and her happiness were in her home and family. She taught love and service to God both by word and by example. She was always a devote Catholic and an active member of the Altar Society. Mary Himmelberg, daughter of John and Lida Himmelberg born on a farm south west of Lawrence on April 7, 1877 and died at Lawrence, Nebr. on July 12, 1957 at the age of 80 years, 3 months and 15 days. She attended St. Stephens school. On Oct. 29, 1895 she was united in marriage to John Lemke at St. Stephens Church. She spent her entire life in this community. Mr. and Mrs. Lemke located on a farm south west of Lawrence where they lived until their family was grown. They then moved to St. Stephens and then to their present home in Lawrence. In 1945 they celebrated their Golden Wedding and in 1965 their 60th Anniversary. At this time they received the special Blessing of Pope Plus XII. Two children Gertrude and Lawrence preceded their mother in death. Surviving are her husband, John Lemke; three sons, John G. Lemke, Tony Lemke, and Albert Lemke; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Kohmetscher and Mrs. Emma Beyke. 16 grandchildren and 28 great- grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Johana Herz. Pall bearers at the funeral services were six grandsons, Robert Kohmetscher, Gerald Kohmetscher, Vernon Lemke, Arnold Lemke, Delbert Lemke and Glen Beyke.
