Read More	The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, January 8, 1953; pg. 1 Old Lawrence Resident Passed Away January 1 Mrs. Dena Lemke, 82, for 33 years a resident of Lawrence died Jan. 1 in Mary Lanning hospital (sic) in Hastings. Mrs. Lemke had been bedfast since September 1950 when, in a fall at the home of her son, Chris Lemke, living west of Lawrence, she broke both hips, the right leg and right shoulder. Mr. and Mrs. Lemke have cared for her since that time until she was taken to the Hastings hospital. The son, Chris; a granddaughter and a great grandson are the only survivors. Mrs. Lemke was born in Iowa City, Iowa. Funeral services were conducted Monday at the St. Stephens church (sic), with burial being made in the church cemetery. ==================== Lawrence Locomotive (Lawrence, NE), Thursday, January 8, 1953; pg. 1 FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. DENA LEMKE Mrs. Dena Lemke passed away on January 1, 1933 at 10 20 p.m. at the Mary Lanning hospital (sic) in Hasting at the age of 82 years and 16 day, following an illness of three years. During most of this time she was bedfast. She suffered a stroke the day before Christmas and remained unconscious until her death. Dena Himmelberg, daughter of John and Adelaide (Hubers) Himmelberg, was born on December 16, 1670 at Iowa City, Iowa. At the age of one year she with her parents and older sister came to Nebraska by Covered wagon and homesteaded on a farm southwest of Lawrence where she grew to maturity. She was united in marriage to Herman Lemke in February 1894 at St. Stephen Catholic Church. The young couple located on a farm southwest of Lawrence where they lived until 1918 when they retired at Lawrence. After her husband's death on July 30, 1942 she lived alone until about 3 years ago when her health failed and she went to live with her son Chris and Mrs. Lemke. On Sept. 30, 1949 she fractured both hips and an arm from which the never recovered. She remained bedfast until her death. Funeral services were held at St. Stephens Catholic Church on Jan. 5 1953 at nine o'clock. Rt. Rev. Msgr. B. J. Haskamp offered the Requiem High Mass and officiated at the graveside service. Interment as (sic) made in St. Stephens cemetery (sic) beside her husband. She is survived by her son Chris Lemke, a granddaughter Mrs. Glen Theer and a great grandson Lonnie Theer. Also by two sister (sic), Mrs. Anna Herz and Mrs. John Lemke Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister Mrs. Lydia Burch and a brother John Himmelberg. Two brother (sic) died in infancy, Herman age 1 month and Bernard 1 1/2 years old. Pallbearers were six nephew (sic) of the deceased Albert Lemke, Tony Lemke, John P. Himmelberg, George Himmelberg, Norbert Herz and Ray Herz. Relatives from a distance present for the final rites were Mr. and Mrs. Orville Burch, Sylvester Burch, and Mrs. Ray Kelly of Glasco, Kansas. Mr, and Mrs.Max Meade of Red Cloud, Mrs. Theresa Herz and Norbert Herz of Hasting, Mrs. Loretta Lemke of Superior and Mrs. Vernerd Schantz of West Point, Iowa.
