Mr. Himmelberg had planned to retire from the farm and bills had already been printed for his farm sale. He died following a heart attack. The funeral services were held at St. Stephens Church south of Lawrence, of which Mr. Himmelberg had been a life-long member. He will be the first person buried from the new brick church just erected at St. Stephens. Rev. B. J. Hascamp officiated. Mr. Himmelberg, who was born Feb. 20, 1875, only a half mile from the farm on which he later resided, lived in Webster County all his life. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lizzie Himmelberg; five sons, John P., Henry, George, Mark and Norbert Himmelberg, all of Lawrence; three daughters, Mrs. Marie Kitten of Stratton, Colo.; and Mmes. Adie Schum and Roy Alber of Blue Hill; 47 grandchildren; and three sisters, Mmes. Dennis Lemke, Anna Herz and Mary Lemke, all of Lawrence. ======================== The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, January 8, 1948 Funeral services were conducted Monday morning at 9:30 at St. Stephens church for John Himmelberg. The Rev. B.J. Haskamp officiated at the High Mass of Requiem and at the graveside service at St. Stephens cemetery. Mr. Himmelberg passed away suddenly at his home southwest of Lawrence Friday morning at 11:45, from a heart attack. He had suffered several severe attacks recently. Born February 20, 1875 at Lawrence, Nebr., on a farm a half mile from the farm on which he spent his entire married life, he passed away December 26, 1947 at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 6 days. He was united in marriage September 14, 1897 to Miss Lizzie Lemke and the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last September. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lizzie Himmelberg, five sons, John P., Henry, George, Mark and Norbert all of this vicinity; three daughters, Mrs. Alvin Kitten of Stratton, Col., Mrs. Wm. Schumm, and Mrs. Roy Albers of Blue Hill; and three sisters: Mrs. Dena Lemke, Mrs. John Lemke, and Mrs. Jake Herz, all of Lawrence. -- Lawrence Locomotive, January 1, 1947
