STUCKEY Mrs. Joe Stuckey, a well known resident of Fairfield for 44 years, passed away Saturday at 6:00 at the Jefferson county hospital where she had been a patient since the Fourth of July. She suffered a broken hip and other injuries when she was hit by a car backing away from the curb on June 23, but a doctor's report this morning said her death was not caused by the accident injuries. She died of natural causes, he said. The accident took place at the corner of Burlington and Main street at the southwest corner of the public square. Mrs. Stuckey was crossing Burlington street, going north, when Robert M. Bailey, route 4, Fairfield,backed his car from the curb at the east parking stall in the block and knocked Mrs. Stuckey to the pavement. Officers were called and she was taken to a doctor. At first it was believed her injuries were not serious, but an examination showed she had a broken hip. However, the doctor's report this morning said the accident injuries were not the cause of her death, therefore it will not be a traffic fatality charged against the city or county. Last rites for Mrs. Stuckey will be Tuesday, July 11, at 2:00 p.m. at the Monger funeral home with Dr. L. L. Weis in charge. Burial will be in the Memorial Lawn cemetery. Adella J. Stuckey, 78, was born October 16, 1871, at Bloomington, Illinois, the daughter of the late Andrew and Josephine Gibson. She was reared and educated in Bloomington and lived at Marne, Iowa, for a time before making her home in Fairfield. She was united in marriage on January 1, 1902, to Joe H. Stuckey, who survives. The wedding took place at Marshalltown. A member of the Methodist church and Chapter C, P.E.O. Mrs. Stuckey had been a resident of Fairfield since 1966. Besides her husband, she is survived by three children: Mrs. C. E. Fleming, Gowanda, New York; Mrs. H. E. Varney, Banning, Calif.; and Mrs. Mills, Canton, Ill. Also surviving are three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and the following sisters and brothers; Mrs. Fred Benson, Marshalltown, Iowa; Mrs. George Leighton, Van Nuys, Calif; Mrs. Earl Smith, Des Moines; W. C. Gibson, Moline, Illinois; A. J. Gibson, Buffalo, New York; and C. E. Gibson, Riverside, Calif.
