Well Known Farmer Dies Suddenly While Fanning Flax Adolph Munson, 64, Dayton farmer, died suddenly Saturday afternoon while fanning flax on his farm near Dayton. A heart attack is believed to be the cause of his death. Mr. Munson had apparently been in good health so his death came as a great shock to his relatives and friends. Mr. Munson had been in town earlier in the day and had only been home a short time when stricken. He came to Iowa from Greenview, Ill., about 40 years ago and had lived on the same farm since that time. Survivors are his wife, a daughter Nellie at home, a sister Mrs. Philip Thomann of Dayton and a brother Peter Munson of Burnside. A son Virgil preceded him in death several years ago. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the home and at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist church with burial in the Dayton cemetery. The Swanson funeral home was in charge. Dayton Review September 2, 1943 Obituary Adolph Martin Munson, son of Louis and Bengta Munson, was born on the 9th day of July 1879, at Greenview, Illinois. He passed away from this life on the 21st day of August, 1943 at the age of 64 years, one month and twelve days. When a young man of about 25 years of age, he left his home town and came west to Iowa and settled on a farm west of Dayton, in the year 1904. He has made Dayton his home ever since. Mr. Munson was united in marriage to Miss Carrie Larson of Dayton on the 6th day of April, 1910 and to this union was born one son and one daughter. The son, Virgil Munson preceded him in death. He passed away from this life on the 6th day of July, 1936. Mr. Munson was a member of the Methodist Church at Dayton and was a loyal supporter of every good and noble cause. He was a quiet man and did not care for much publicity. He was always in sympathy with the program of the church and helped in its offerings, and although he never took an active part in the church program yet by his gifts and attendance he showed forth his willingness to the service. As a patriotic citizen he tried to fulfill his nation's call and that was to produce more food for the armed forces of the world. It was while busy with his active duties on the farm, that the call came to the higher service and a better country. Mr. Munson was a kind father, a loving husband, a sympathetic friend, and a patriotic citizen. During the many years he lived in this community he has made a very large number of friends and acquaintances. He has lived in your midst for 41 years. During that time he has helped many a mourner in their sorrow and today his friends have come to carry their sorrow and to help those who are left behind sympathize with then. Well may these words be said of him. Adolph, you have helped us, Your voice we no more hear, But while life last, your memory casts Reflections we hold dear. Not with the sound of trumpets You did your deed each day, But with a loving tender heart You plodded on your way. God watched you from His heavens, And blessed you with His Grace He calls you now to end the race, And thus the heavenly land embrace. He leaves to mourn his loss, his widow, Mrs. Carrie Munson, his daughter, Nellie Munson, both of Dayton, Iowa. One sister, Mrs. Phillip Thomann of Dayton, Iowa and one brother, Pete Munson of Burnside, Iowa. Johnson and Miss Ruth Nelson of Des Moines, Mrs. Ernest Stromberg and Mr. Loyl Stromberg of Fort Dodge, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Benton of Delmar, Mrs. Paul O'Shanna of Carlyle, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Johnson, Howard and Anna of Kelley. Those who acted as pallbearers were: Emory and Paul Hanson, Gerald Larson, Kenneth Koppen, Loyl Stromberg and John Robert Gustafson. The music selections were "Going Down the Valley," "There Is No Disappointment in Heaven," and "Does Jesus Care," given by a chorus consisting of Mrs. Arvid Erickson, Mrs. R.D. Leonard, Mrs. Merle Richey and Miss Julia Putzke with Mrs. Ray Gabrielson at the organ.
