Description	:	Albert Brekel, 83, of Sterling died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000 in Sterling of natural causes. Visitation and viewing will be from 12-6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24, at Tennant Funeral Home, with vigil service and rosary to begin at 6 p.m., also at Tennant. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Anthony Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 25, with Rev. Mickey Flaska officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Brekel was born on April 22, 1917 to John and Anna (Orth) Brekel in Fleming. He attended St. Peter's School in Fleming and graduated in 1931. Mr. Brekel was born on April 22, 1917 to John and Anna (Orth) Brekel in Fleming. He attended St. Peter's School in Fleming and graduated in 1931. On July 3, 1945 he married Agnes Burenheide. They farmed in the St. Peter's community. He was a member of Farmers Union, St. Peter's Club and St. Peter's Parish Council and Knights of Columbus. He served on the Farmers Home Administration Board and the Dailey Co-Op Elevator Board. Mr. Brekel enjoyed playing cards, making rosaries, wood working and carving, in which he won several awards at the Logan County Fair. He is survived by three sons, Ralph Brekel and wife Trudy of Brighton, Marvin Brekel and wife Judy of Fleming, and Leo Brekel and wife Debbie of Fleming; two daughters, Audrey Brekel of Boulder and Joyce Lambrecht and husband Vern of Sterling; one sister, Margaret Brekel of Sterling; one brother, Lawrence Brekel of Sterling; and eight grand- children. Mr. Brekel was preceded in death by his wife Agnes in 1998; three brothers, Edward, Rev. Bernard, and Herman; and two sisters, Catherine Helgoth and Philomene Brown. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony: Catholic Church in Sterling.
