The following provided by Find A Grave contributor "Cara": The River Press, Fort Benton, Mont., 31 July 1946 Pioneer Highwood Resident Answers Final Call Here Bert James Scott, a resident of the Highwood community and of Highwood for more than 50 years, passed away at the St. Clare hospital, following an illness extending over the past several months. He entered the hospital here on May 11. He was well known and highly respected by all who knew him. Bert James Scott was born Dec. 29, 1880, at Whittemore, Iowa, the son of Albert John and Catherine Ann Scott. At the age of 16 months his parents and family came up the Missouri river on a steamboat to Fort Benton, arriving here in the early spring of 1882. They resided here until the summer of 1884 when the family moved to Fort McLeod, Alberta, Canada. After the death of his father, the family moved back to Cascade county in 1890. Mr. Scott made his home in or near Highwood since the year of 1892. He was married on Dec. 28, 1910, to Miss Nina Buckmister at Fort Benton. Shortly after his marriage he engaged in farming until 1917 when he sold his farm and moved to his present home in Highwood. He then became a rural mail carrier for a few years and then janitor of the Highwood school, which position he held until forced to give up his work on account of ill health. Survivors are his wife, Nina Scott; one son, Orville; two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Gregg and Lois, all of Highwood. One daughter, Gladys, preceded him in death in 1932. Other relatives are one brother, Thomas W. Scott, Bozeman; and four sisters, Mrs. Esther Evans, Culbertson, Mont., Mrs. Mae Reardon, Spencer, Iowa, Mrs. Belle Evans, Bozeman, and Mrs. Lela Vansil, Casper, Wyo.; also several cousins, nieces and nephews. Mr. Scott was a member of the Methodist church at Highwood and he attended church regularly until his last illness. He treated all men as his friends and his friends were only numbered by his acquaintance. Funeral services are to be held from the Cloyd chapel in this city on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 and will be conducted by George Sanders, pastor of the Methodist church at Belt. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery. The relatives have the sympathy of all in their bereavement.
