Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Loup City, NE with Reverend Joel Plisek officiating. Smith was born March 27, 1912 at Dunlap, Iowa to Robert and Beatrice "Bertha" (Jones) Smith. He grew up and attended school in Dunlap and graduated high school in Dunlap in 1930. Out of school he went to work for the Continental Baking Company in Norfolk, NE and worked for them over 25 years. He married Blanche A. Koski on October 6, 1940 in Harlan, Iowa and they lived in Norfolk, NE. They moved to Loup City in November, 1962 and owned and operated Smith's IGA grocery store until 1979. He was also a school bus driver for Loup City Public Schools for 20 years and on the Sherman County Board of Supervisors for 12 years. Albert and Blanche were lifetime members of the United Methodist Church. He was also a lifetime member of the Masons. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Alberta and Don Rezek of Phoenix, AZ; Roberta and Al Doeden of Lincoln, NE; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Judy Smith of Lincoln, NE; Donald and Nancy Smith of Loup City, NE; daughter and sons-in-law, Cindy and John Janulewicz of Loup City, NE; 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and sister, Jane Winter of South Sioux City, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Blanche; two brothers; seven sisters and grandson, Tyler Smith.
