Read More	INJURIES FATAL TO YOUNG FARMER Bert Sunderman Passed Away at Atlantic Hospital. Funeral Sunday. After suffering from injuries received on August 30th, when caught between the bumpers of two automobiles, Bert Sunderman, well known and highly respected farmer of Noble township, passed away at the Atlantic hospital Thursday, about 11 o'clock, after everything that medical skill, the best of nurses and loving hands could do for him. Blood transfusions were given him and besides those whose blood was used, others offered to give their's in case needed. On the night of the accident there was a terrific storm and many cars were stalled because of moisture getting into the working parts. Several cars had been taken care of at the Schroeder garage that evening and Mr. Sunderman, who was caught in the storm, was standing in the garage. A car had been brought in and the parts dried off. The man in the car was told to step on the starter to see if it was ready to be taken out. There was another car in front of it and Mr. Sunderman was standing between them. As the man stepped on the starter the car shot forward, catching the leg of Mr. Sunderman between the bumpers. To make matters worse, the bumpers locked and there was some difficulty in getting the injured man out of the place. After he was removed it was found the leg had been injured below the knee. The wound bled freely and he was removed to the office of a physician at Grant, who gave it every care. Mr Sunderman felt better the next day and was able to get about with the aid of crutches. Thursday the leg began to pain him a great lot and the physician ministered to him. However, he gradually grew worse and was removed to the Atlantic hospital. As stated, about everything possible was done for him, but the infection was deep-seated and the end came at eleven o'clock Thursday. Mr. Sunderman was a native of Noble township. He was the son of the late Simon Sunderman and save for two years on another farm he had resided on the farm on which he was born all his life. He grew to manhood in Noble township and was married in Atlantic in January 1908 to Miss Etta Abhau. One daughter was born to this marriage. The wife died August 23, 1923. He was married the second time in Atlantic on February 3, 1927, to Miss Mable Blohn. Besides the widow, he is survived by his daughter, Darlene, his mother Mrs. Alice Sunderman, one brother, Walter, and numerous other relatives and close friends. A sister, Mrs. Ruth Rose, died in December 1936. Mr. Sunderman was a splendid husband and father, a worker in all the activities of the community he long called home and will be greatly missed. The funeral services were held at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church Sunday afternoon at two-thirty. Long before the appointed hour people began gathering at the church and when the hour arrived for holding the services the church was filled to over-flowing. The main auditorium, the gallery and basement were filled and many were seated on the lawn. Others stood in the yard. Members of the Brotherhood of which the deceased was a member, attended in a body. Rev. T.L. Boesch, of Council Bluffs, who has been supply pastor of St. John's for some months, officiated at the services and delivered a most comforting sermon to those who mourn. The singing was by Asa Brown and Mrs. Ross Riggs. They sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", "Ivory Palaces" and "Some Sweet Day, By and By". Pall bears were members of the Lyman Hillbilly Band, of which organization Mr. Sunderman was a member. Those who carried the remains to its last resting place were: Enos Schroeder, William Mueller, Irvin Kuester, Lloyd Wohlenhaus, Alvin Lehmkuhl and Carl Dunmire.
