Walt Sunderman, a lifelong resident of the Noble township community, passed to his reward Friday morning of last week. He passed away at the Mercy hospital in Council Bluffs. Mr. Sunderman had been in failing health for about a year and a half with a lingering and painful illness. During this time Mr. Sunderman was hospitalized several times. His last hospitalization was of some five days duration. Walt Sunderman was born in Noble township on February 5, 1891, and at his passing had reached the age of 64 years, 3 months and 28 days. He grew to manhood in this community and was united in marriage to Lizzie Muller on February 19, 1913. Since their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Sunderman have resided on a farm in Noble township. Mr. Sunderman was a member of St John's Evangelical and Reformed church of Noble township and an active worker in that congregation. When fire destroyed this church early this year, Mr. and Mrs. Sunderman very generously donated the site for the new edifice which is now being erected. Mr. Sunderman also was a member of the board of directors of the Griswold Cooperative telephone company, which office he held several years. Mr. Sunderman was the last member of his branch of the Sunderman family to pass on, being preceded in death by his parents, all brothers and sisters, and one infant daughter in 1921. Left to mourn his passing are his widow; one son, Clifford Sunderman of Noble township; and one grandson, in addition to numerous other more distant relatives and a large circle of friends. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Roland funeral home in Atlantic. Officiating at the service was his pastor, Rev. Paul Niedermeyer. The music was by Hank Mueller, soloist, and accompanied by Rose Marie Rabe. The casket bearers were: Fred, Wilbur and William Sunderman, Verle Adams, Fred Gerlach and Sam Sunderman. The floral committee was composed of Mrs. Carl Dunmire and Mrs. Wilbert Tanner. Interment was made on the family lot in the Weirich cemetery. (Local newspaper)
