Description	:	Albertus "Bert" Van Beek, 85, of Rock Valley died Friday, Jan. 8,1999 at Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley. Services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. The Rev. John den Hoed will officiate. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery at Sioux Center. Albertus was born July 4,1913 in Ede, the Netherlands, to Albert and Gertrude Van Beek. He moved to the United States in 1920. He married Elizabeth De Boer on Jan. 6, 1939 at Canton, S.D. The couple farmed near Fairview, S.D. before moving to the Lebanon area where they ran a feed grinding business for several years. They moved to Ireton and farmed for three years. The family then moved to Sioux Center where he worked for De Stigter Brothers Construction and also ran a greenhouse and floral business. After retiring, he worked for the city for several years. He moved to Valley Manor on May 22, 1998. Mr. Van Beek was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Church at Sioux Center. Survivors include his wife of Sioux Center; three sons and their wives, Albert and Vickie, Gerrit and Deb, all of Rock Valley, and Klaas and Trudy of Sioux Center; four daughters and their husbands, Agnes and Cluck Miedema of Sioux Center, Henny and Loren Kots of Rock Valley, and Gert and Stan Gaalswyk and . Wilma and Gary Leusink, all of Sibley; a brother, Henry of Orange City; two sisters, Gertrude and her husband Gerrit Bleyenberg and Henrietta Van Grootheest, all of Rock Valley; 20 grandchildren; 2 1 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Mass, Gerrit, John, Albert, Pete and Hendrick; asister, Rena; a grandson, Terry True; and three great-grandchildren. Sioux County Capital 1999-01-14.
