Gertrude Bleyenberg was born to Albert and Gertrude (Van Beek) Van Beek on September 21, 1907 in Bennekom, The Netherlands. At the age of 13 she immigrated to the United States with her family, settling in the Sioux Center, Iowa area. On January 15, 1931 she was united in marriage to Gerrit Bleyenberg in Sioux Center. He preceded her in death on October 14, 2000. Gertrude and Gerrit farmed near Sioux Center and also owned and operated a hatchery/feed store for a time. Gertrude was a lifetime member of the Netherlands Reformed Church. Over the years she filled her spare time with crocheting and knitting. Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law, Dick Gerald and Clara Ann Bleyenberg of Rock Valley and two daughters and sons-in-law: Trudy and Bill Koedam of Apache Junction, AZ and Alma and Art den Hoed of Larchwood along with her 14 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Gertrude is also survived by four sisters-in-law: Juliana Van Beek, Elizabeth Van Beek, Gertrude Van Beek, Hermina Bleyenberg all of Sioux Center and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Gertrude was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Everet Koedam; two great granddaughters; her parents; seven brothers: Maas, Gerrit, Albert G., John, Albertus, Peter and Henry, Van Beek and two sisters: Rena Schelling and Henrietta Van Grootheest.
