My grandfather, a Pennsylvania Dutchman who could speak no language but English was born in Pennsylvania in 1805. His grandfather came to America before the Revolutionary War. My grandmother, an English woman, was born in London in 1808 and came to America as a little girl. My father was born in Ohio in 1843, and my mother, of Scotch-Irish extraction, was born in Illinois in 1847. Both went to Oregon in 1852 at which time the original Americans were dangerous neighbors. I was born in Oregon in 1871. It will be readily seen that the mixture of blood is one-fourth Pennsylvania Dutch, one-fourth English and one-half Scotch-Irish, or 100 percent American.
