No obituary has been found for Alexander Ross as there are no microfilm copies of area newspapers for 1873 that are available for review. While the obituary for Samuel Oscar Ross mentioned the death date of 1874 in passing about the death of his father, it is likely that the 1873 year is more credible (the 1873 date is on the headstone, at any rate). Update: a SAR application for a lineal descendant Robert Alexander Ross listed the DOD as being 1872. Not sure how to reconcile three different DOD listings other than to use the one used on the headstone inscription. Per that SAR application and other sources, Alexander Ross was a son of John Ross and Elizabeth Wall Ross. At least one family tree on Ancestry has that Alexander Ross and a John Ross were brothers, but if you look closely at their headstone inscriptions the DOB's are not the same, so not twins, but too far apart to be in the same 1825 year. So family researchers should use caution with that Ancestry tree. It appears to be in regards to Alexander's parents and siblings in the 1850 census, then the 1860 census is relevant to the Alex/Alexander Ross family. Note that the ages of individuals in these census reports are usually rounded off, so they may or may not be an exact match per headstone inscriptions or other sources.
