Wednesday, December 10, 1924. Page 5. MRS. RUFUS E. HUFF Alice Carolyn Ewing, daughter of William and Mary Ewing, was born May 15, 1885 in Nemaha Co. Kansas on her father's farm near Sabetha, where she grew to young womanhood. At the age of seventeen she was united in marriage to Jacob Feik, to this union was born one daughter Ethel Pearl. November 21, 1910, she was married to Rufus E. Huff. To this union were born four sons, Ralph, Adrian, Richard and Ivan, the infant son, preceding her to the better land in 1919. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband, three sons, one daughter, Mrs. Otto Lang, of DuBois, two grandchildren, an aged mother, five sisters, three brothers and friends. Mrs. Huff had lived in DuBois a number of years, recently moving to Powhattan where they were engaged in the restaurant business. October 31 she became ill, her physician pronouncing it leakage of the appendix. The following Sunday she was removed to Horton hospital where her trouble was diagnosed as peritonitis, and operation being performed. This seemed to give temporary relief, the second operation following in a few days from which she never rallied. Pneumonia setting in she passed away December 4, 1924 at the Horton hospital, Horton, Kansas. Alice was a patient sufferer and gave testimony she had made her peace with God. The funeral was held at the United Brethren church in DuBois Sunday at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Mamie Young having charge of the service. The body was laid to rest in the DuBois cemetery by the side of her baby. Their son RALPH HUFF, born March 21, 1910 and died July 13, 1982 in CA.
