She had suffered a stroke some time ago adn a lighter stroke in recent months but had been critically ill only a few days. Her parents, Charley {Tom} and Nancy Haxton Bestwick, were pioneers in this community. She was born on a farm in the Rock Creek community. In her childhood the family moved to Sabetha where she attended school and grew to maturity. For several years she was employed by her uncle and aunt in the Haxton Hotel where she made many friends by her courteous and efficent service. For many years she was employed as housekeeper by the Townsend family in St. Joseph, and was regarded with affection and esteem. Mr. and Mrs. Townsend considered her as one of he family and made provision for her to receive a life income. She was devoted to her family and assisted in the care of her parents until their death and other members of her family, who had need of her. She was very fond of her nieces and nephews and remembered their birthdays, graduations and other special occasions with generous gifts and pride. Alice Bestwick was a kind, thoughtful and gentle woman. Her voice was soft and low, she was quiet, modest and sincere, a friend who shared the joys and sorrows of others. During her months of illness she had enjoyed the companionship and devoted care of her sister, Mrs. Mae Teague, who did all that was possible to bring comfort and happiness to her sister. She is survived by Mrs. Teague and another sister, Mrs. C.E. Munn of Los Angeles, Calfl; five borthers, Delbert, Wesley, Albert and Frank of Sabetha and Arthur of Hiawatha; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins, several of whom live in this community. Miss Bestwick was a member of the Christian Science Church and found peace and comfort in her faith. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at ten o'clock at the Sidenfaden Funeral Home in St. Joseph. The body was then brought to Sabetha and services were held on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Reinhart Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Leonard Reifel. The pall bearers were Eldbert, Albert, Arthur and Frank Bestwick, brothers of the deceased, and Neil and Richard Bestwick, nephews. Interment was in Sabetha cemetery.
