Description	:	Alice Yearous, eldest child of Martin Klingman and Laura Johnson Klingman, was born July 2, 1875, in Highland Township, Clayton County, Iowa on the present Milo Frieden farm. She was educated in the local school and at Upper Iowa University as a music student. Because of her mother's lingering illness, she came home to help her mother. Dec. 25, 1895, she married Andrew Yearous. To this union, three children were born: Mildred (Mrs. Eugene R. Woodworth) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Arthur, Elkader; and Elsie (Mrs. Davis C. Bartelma), Boulder, Colorado. Her life was devoted to her family and home, her church and her music. Until a month before her death, she played the organ at the Lutheran Nursing home in Strawberry Point. She played the dedication hymn for the Illyria Community Church, November 10, 1894 and at the 50th Anniversary of the church in 1944. At the dedication of the enlarged and remodeled church, she again, at the age of 84, played the dedication hymn. She helped with the organization of the Ladies Aid and Cemetery Organization, and was a president of the organization. For many years she taught the adult Sunday school class of the Illyria Church of which she was a long time member. Until the organization disbanded, she was an interested member of the Daughter's of Union Veterans in Elkader. She lived on the Yearous farm until the death of her husband. After that time she lived with her children until she entered the Strawberry Point Lutheran Nursing Home. Death came January 17, 1986 at the age of 92 years. Preceding her in death were her husband, Andrew, on Dec. 6, 1962; her brother Charles M. Klingman; and her sister, Nora Ripke. Survivors, besides the three children, are two brothers, Albert Klingman, Strawberry Point and Willard Klingman, Elgin. Also included are seven grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 20 at 2 p.m. at the Illyria Community Church with Rev. Lee Roy Collins officiating. Burial was in Illyria Community Cemetery. Pall bearers were Raymond Benson, Arthur Chapman, Thomas Pollock, Ben Dennler, Carroll Klingman and Myron Chapman. (Obit in the Elgin (IA) Echo, Jan. 25, 1968, page 2)
