Description	:	Rites for Charles Martin Klingman, the son of Laura Johnson and Martin Klingman, who was born in Highland Township, Clayton county, on March 13, 1877, were held August 27 at the Illyria church. Mr. Klingman attended the rural school in highland Twp. and grew to manhood in that community. Read More	Rites for Charles Martin Klingman, the son of Laura Johnson and Martin Klingman, who was born in Highland Township, Clayton county, on March 13, 1877, were held August 27 at the Illyria church. Mr. Klingman attended the rural school in highland Twp. and grew to manhood in that community. On April 16, 1898, he was married to Louise Wegmiller and they became parents of five children: Ray and Lee of Volga, Hilda, who is Mrs. Glenn Little of Elgin, Cecil, Mrs. Lucian Donlon, of Elkader, and Fred of Arlington. The family circle was broken with the passing of Mrs. Klingman on July 5, 1922. In June of 1929 Mr. Klingman was united in marriage to Caroline Helgerson and after 12 years of companionship, she passed away in 1941. During most of his adult life he farmed in this community. In 1940 he moved to Volga and worked as a carpenter. His last days before going to the McGregor hospital were spent in the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Klingman. After a lingering illness, Mr. Klingman passed away Sunday morning, Aug. 25, at the age of 80 years. Left to mourn his passing are his five children, Ray, Lee, Hilda, Cecil and Fred. Also surviving are two sisters, Alice, who is Mrs. Andrew Yearous of Elgin; Nora, Mrs. Albert Ripke, of Grandview, Wash.; and two brothers, William and Albert, of Elgin. In addition, he has 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Following the services at the Illyria Community Church, his body was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Shaffer, accompanied by Harold Strong. Casket bearers were Loy (sic) Klingman, Roger Klingman, LeeRoy Klingman, Joe Donlon, Gary Klingman and Donald Little.
