Description	:	Alice Sophie (Mesenbrink) Petersen (1901 - 1991) Alice Sophie Petersen was born April 13, 1901, the daughter of Henry Mesenbrink and Margaret Hartwig Mesenbrink, and died April 29, 1991 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 90 years. Read More	Alice Sophie (Mesenbrink) Petersen (1901 - 1991) Alice Sophie Petersen was born April 13, 1901, the daughter of Henry Mesenbrink and Margaret Hartwig Mesenbrink, and died April 29, 1991 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 90 years. As an infant, Alice began her life as a Christian through Holy Baptism and reaffirmed her faith through Confirmation in German in St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Alice was born on a farm in East Boyer Township, near Denison and later moved with her family to Charter Oak, where she lived with her family and received her education in a rural school. On Aug. 19, 1920, Alice and John Whited Sr. were united in marriage at Zion Lutheran Church by Reverend Wm. Frese. To this union two sons and three daughters were born. On March 5, 1930, Alice and Jurgen Petersen were united in marriage in Schleswig, by Reverend Kellhorn. To this union two sons and four daughters were born. Alice and Jurgen lived on a farm west of Schleswig. In 1959, Alice moved to Denison and lived with her daughter, Joleen, until August of 1987, when she entered the Denison Care Center. While living in Denison she was employed as a cook at the Nielsen Hotel and Midwestern College and retired in 1970. Alice was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who cared for her family, and enjoyed her leisure time caring for her flowers. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jurgen Petersen; one daughter, Betty Boysen Dethlefson; two sons, James and Jurgen Petersen; two son-in-laws, Donald Klotz and Fred Dethlefson; one daughter-in-law, Marilyn Whited; one grandson and two granddaughters. Alice is survived by six daughters: Joleen Carstenson and her husband, Willis, Mildred Rusch and her husband, Elmer, Ruby Ann Beermann and her husband Glen, all of Denison, Darlene Justice and her husband, Russel of Irwin, Gladys Rusch and her husband, Edwin of Schleswig, Hertha Saxton and her husband, Ben of Quimby; two sons, John Whited and his wife, Marjorie, and Roy Whited, both of Denison; also 22 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; one aunt, Dora Blunk of Anthon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, with Pastor James Schatz officiating the service and the grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery at Schleswig. Mrs. Dorothy Jessen served as organ accompanist for soloist Rubie Kastner singing "How Great Thou Art" and "One Day At A Time." Pallbearers were Roger Rusch, Leo Klotz, Leon Klotz, Gary Justice, Craig Whited and John A. Whited. Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home of Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
