Description	:	Funeral services were held at the First Reformed church here at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 24, for Mrs. Alida (Ed E.) Vermeer, 71, life-long resident of Sioux Center, who passed away unexpectedly at the Sioux Center Community hospital early October 22 following a brief confinement. Death was attributed to heart failure. Mrs. Vermeer had been admitted to the hospital two days earlier for treatment of a minor ailment and had been in traction. Death was attributed to heart failure. Mrs. Vermeer had been admitted to the hospital two days earlier for treatment of a minor ailment and had been in traction. Death occurred in her sleep, about 4 a.m. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Harry Brouwer, who was assisted by the Rev. John Roggen. Burial was made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral home. A brief service for members of the family was held at the Vander Ploeg chapel preceeding the service at the church. Pall bearers were Gene Van Roekel, Edwin Van Roekel, Harlan Van Roekel, David Schut, Paul Vermeer, Evan Vermeer. Mrs. Vermeer, nee Alida Borgman, was born in Sioux Center March 15, 1893 and grew to young womanhood here. She was married to Ed. E. Vermeer February 16, 1917. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1931. Survivors include seven daughters and four sons, Edna (Mrs. Gershom Van Roekel) of Hull, Aldine (Mrs. John H. Van Roekel) of Orange City, Hester (Mrs. Darrel Black) of Coon Rapids, Minn., Mildred (Mrs. Gerald Schutt) of Sioux Center, Irwin and Loyd, both of Sioux Center, Cynthia (Mrs. Deliane Galb) of Arelia, Elnor (Mrs. Dan Niffenegger) of Ames, Dr. Wallace Vermeer of Orange City, Ruth (Mrs. Earl Bonnema) of Orange City, and E. Wayne Vermeer of Iowa City. Other survivors include 44 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and the following sisters and brother: Mrs. Dora DeBey of San Diego, Cal., Ruth (Mrs. Roy DeBoer) of LeMars, Mina (Mrs. John Poppen) of Sioux Center, Henrietta (Mrs. George DeBoer) of Maurice, Grace Borgman of Santa Marie, Cal., Elizabeth Borgman of Cincinatti, Ohio, Bernice Borgman of East Lansing, Mich., Esther (Mrs. John Van Wyk) and Melvin, both of Santa Marie, Cal. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Rena (Mrs. P.E. Vermeer), Johanna (Mrs. Gerrit Feekes), Mary (Mrs. Herman Ten Naple, and Cynthia Borgman, who died while serving as a missionary in Amoy, China. -Obituary from The Sioux Center News (10/29/1964)
