Description	:	Allen Jefferson Kyle was born in Canton, Stark Co. Ohio on 24 Nov 1820. We are fairly sure his parents are Lewis and Nancy Souk Kyle. He married Anna Brillhart the 8 May 1845 in Stark Co. Ohio., daughter of Peter Brillhart and Elizabeth Baker. To this union 12 children were born. Allan had a bit of gypsy in him. He married Anna Brillhart the 8 May 1845 in Stark Co. Ohio., daughter of Peter Brillhart and Elizabeth Baker. To this union 12 children were born. Allan had a bit of gypsy in him. Allen was 83 years old when he took his own life by hanging himself in the family barn where he lived with his youngest daughter Laura Kyle Gourley and her husband Thomas. It is said that Grandfather Gourley made this remark, ( He should have waited until after haying season was over before he did it.) Death by suicide July 21 1903 The Tomas Gourley farm, three and one half miles northeast of town was where coroner S. R. Kreidler of Red Oak was summoned to the scene of the sad occurrence and an inquest was held. Mr Kyle was 83 years of age and had been making his home with Mrs. Gourley for the past eight years, His wife having died several years ago. He seemed to grieve greatly over the lose of his companion and suffered spells of melancholia, although he seemed to be mentally sound and was physically strong for one his age. He was well informed in current events, being an extensive reader of the newspapers, but several articles seemed to worry him considerably, He had corresponded with a brother-in-law for a number of years, but recently received word of the death of this relative,The morning of the day he committed the deed he re-read all the letters he had received from his brother-in-law, but ate a hearty dinner and chatted freely with Mr. Gourley until about 3 o'clock. The members of the family went about their duties and about 6 o'clock Lewis Gourley came in from the field and discovered his grandfather hanging in the barn. The old gentleman had taken the rope from a halter, hung the halter on a nail, attached the rope to a joist, loop other end around his neck,and jumped from the manger . He hung so close to the floor that he could have saved himself by touching his toes. He had removed his shoes and hat, laying them carefully to one side. The deceased was born in PA in November of 1820, was married to Anna Brillhart in the state of Ohio. To them 12 children were born, 8 of whom survive. Their names are John of Greeley Colorado, W. D. of Omaha, Lewis and Henry of McCook NE; A. J., Mrs. W Barber and Mrs TJ Gourley of Villisca. The wife and mother died while crossing the plains in WY. The funeral will be held at 10 o'clock to day from the residence of T. J. Gourley. The Villisca Review Villisca, IA. Friday July 24 1903. Allan was a cobbler by trade. He made boots by hand out of whole leather. He attached the soles with wooden pegs. Later he would turn to farming. Allen would return to IL to remarry after Laura had married. On 13 Aug 1878 in Danville, Vermillion Co. IL, he would marry Rebecca Jane White Emely, born 1823. This was his second and her fourth marriage. I don't know if she went with him to SD, He came back to Villisca in 1897 to live with Laura. Was this the time when Rebecca died?
