His father, Lafe Mathies, preceded him in death. His mother, Mrs. Margaret Mathies, was seriously injured in the same accident that caused his death. Read More	Allen Roy Mathies **Handwritten: 1931 Allen Roy Mathies was born on a farm southwest of Birmingham, April 3, 1887, and died in an auto accident near Fairfield, April 29, 1931, aged 44 years and 27 days. His father, Lafe Mathies, preceded him in death. His mother, Mrs. Margaret Mathies, was seriously injured in the same accident that caused his death. He was married in 1909 to Alice Ramsay, who with their children Elgar and Margaret mourns the loss of a kind husband and loving father. Two brothers, Charles and Jay, and one sister, Mrs. Fred Countryman, all of Birmingham, are the surviving members of the immediate family. Roy has always lived either near or in Birmingham. In late years he has been engaged in stock buying at the local yards. He is mourned by a large circle of friends who not only feel a deep sympathy with the family in their bereavement, but who feel his parting with a sense of personal loss. He was always good natured and obliging. To make his acquaintance meant that soon you would be his friend. The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community is extended to the immediate family, by all those who loved his kindly and genial spirit. The funeral was held at the Presbyterian church, at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Howard C. Irvine, pastor. Music was furnished by Mrs. H.C. Miller, Mrs. Orpha Ogden, Mr. Bert Gould, and Mr. M.D. Hope, with Mrs. L. Dustin as pianoist(sp). Burial ws in the Maple Hill cemetery. He also leaves two brothers, Charles and Ray of Birmingham, and one sister, Mrs. Fred Countryman.} Source: Van Buren Co.
