Description	:	Alma Iola Cate, daughter of John J. and Phyllis Jane Schafer, was born near Ft. Recovery, Ohio, on November 24, 1880, and departed this life on March 7, 1977, at the Good Samaritan Center at Nelson, Nebraska, at the age of 96 years, 3 months and 11 days. In the fall of 1881, the family came west and settled on a farm near Nelson where she grew to womanhood. Read More	Alma Iola Cate, daughter of John J. and Phyllis Jane Schafer, was born near Ft. Recovery, Ohio, on November 24, 1880, and departed this life on March 7, 1977, at the Good Samaritan Center at Nelson, Nebraska, at the age of 96 years, 3 months and 11 days. In the fall of 1881, the family came west and settled on a farm near Nelson where she grew to womanhood. She was reared in a Christian home and was converted at the age of sixteen, united with the Evangelical Church, retaining her membership there as long as the church served the community, at which time her membership was transferred to the Nelson Methodist Church. April 3, 1924, she was united in marriage to Dr. William A. Cate, who passed away in October, 1940. With the exception of six years living in Lincoln, her home was at Nelson until 1947 when she moved to Central City. In June, 1969, she moved to the nursing home at Nelson where she has since resided. She was a patient, loving person to all who knew her and never complained during her long illness. Besides her husband and her parents, three brothers, four sisters and two step-sons have preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing, two step-daughters-in-law, Mrs. May Cate, Sarasota, Florida, and Mrs. Eva Cate, Tooole (sic), Utah; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mrs. George Schafer, Central City; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
