I was born to my parents, Hans Peter and Anne Marie Hansen on the 28th of August 1890 at their farm home in Prairie Center Township, Clay County, So. Dak., one mile from the small village of Greenfield, baptized in the St. Peter Lutheran Church, two miles from our home where we held membership. Some years later I was confirmed in the St. Paul Lutheran Church where we had transferred from St. Peter. I attended grammar school in the rural school of Greenfield until I was thirteen years old and the Vermillion High School for one year while I was living in Vermillion where my parents had moved after retiring. My parents together with their respective families immigrated to America from Denmark...Father's family came in 1875 when he was twenty years old. Mother's family came in 1870 when she was thirteen years old....Through the association of these two families who lived in the same neighborhood, a romance between Hans Peter Hansen and Anne Marie Junker climaxed into a marriage on June 12, 1880.
