Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette, Feb. 24, 1919 - Alonzo N. Knott Dies - Alonzo N Knott, father of Mrs. F.L. Kinch, South Twenty-first street died at the home of his daughter at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, following a lingering illness. Mr. Knott was 69 years of age and was a life-time resident of Cedar county, where he was well known. The body will be taken to Tipton for funeral and burial. Mr. Knott was among the oldest settlers of Tipton, Iowa, and was the son of William McCauley and Eliza J. Knott. He was born in Tipton Dec. 3, 1849, in a home built on the ground where the First National Bank of Tipton now stands. He was well known in the community in which he lived and will be missed by a large circle of friends. He was a man of execeptionally strong ideas and fearless in the expression of them. His entire life was spent in Tipton, aside from the last three years of which he and his wife lived with their son, William, and daughter, Mrs. Kinch of Cedar Rapids. He was married to Catherine Eliza Aldrich of Tipton, Feb. 1, 1876. To them were born nine children, four of whom died in infancy. His wife and four children survive him. They are Mrs. T. S. Chapman of Willow Lake, S.D., Wm. M. of Cedar Rapids, Dr. H. A. of West Liberty, and Mrs. F. L. Kinch of Cedar Rapids. He also has a one sister and three brothers living, Mrs. H. E. Nicolaus of Wilton, Iowa, T. C. Knott of Cherokee, E.E. Knott of Tipton, and C. H. Knott of Sioux City, Ia. The body will be take to Tipton for burial.
