Born Nov. 27, 1922, in Meyersdale, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Monroe and Amelia (Yoder) Yoder. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Raymond C. Born Nov. 27, 1922, in Meyersdale, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Monroe and Amelia (Yoder) Yoder. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Raymond C. Bender; one sister, Elizabeth Beitzel; three brothers, Ray Yoder, Floyd Yoder, and Olen Yoder; one great-grandson and two step-great-grandchildren. She is survived by the following children, Gordon (Edna), Accident, Marlene (Richard) Hummer, Cocoa, Fla., Darwin (Martha), Accident, Gloria (Melvin) Beitzel, Salisbury, Sharon (Richard) Brenneman, Accident, Carla Cumberworth, Grantsville, Laverna (David) Brenneman, Ontario, Canada; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great grandchildren and one brother, Norman (Martha) Yoder, Grantsville. She accepted Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior in her youth and was a member of the Cherry Glade Mennonite Church, Accident. She taught Sunday school classes, loved worshipping, and enjoyed music, including playing organ and harmonica. She enjoyed the children and giving hugs as she assisted her husband, Raymond, who was known as the Candyman after the church services. She worked as a farmer’s wife, a sales clerk at Raymond’s auctions, and had a special talent in painting. Alta was a woman full of life and shared her joy of living. She showed care and hospitality to all she met. Alta enjoyed family and had a special way of connecting with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her marriage and life was a great example and she will be missed by all. The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation for all the caregivers that shared their love and care with mom, and for all the love and concern shown to them through this time of loss. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the Cherry Glade Mennonite Church on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Barry Maust and Pastor Danny Tice officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Cherry Glade Cemetery.
