Description	:	Alvin A Guenthner, 91, of Hazen passed away November 16, 2014 at Sakakawea Medical Center. Services will be held at 2:00 PM CST, Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Pick City, ND, with Pastor Bill Traphagen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, at Barbot Funeral Home, Hazen. Alvin was born July 16, 1923 to Reinhold and Elizabeth (Isaak) Guenthner, on the family farm in Mercer County, rural Hazen. He was baptized into faith at Luther Gemeinde Lutheran Church September 23, 1923. He took over the farm in 1945 when his parents moved to Washington. Alvin married Elda Wiedrich September 28, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Hazen. Alvin and Elda were lifetime members of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mannhaven and they farmed the 55 years of their marriage with Alvin continuing some years after he was widowed. He was quite proud of the fact he had 63 crops before he called it quits and rented out his land. Alvin drove bus for Riverdale Public School for many years and is remembered fondly by his former passengers. He was known for being easy going and quick with a joke and it seemed he knew almost everyone. He could have a lengthy conversation with someone he had just met, it mattered not to Alvin. Alvin was always tinkering or fixing on something. He was one of the very first to own an arc- welder back in the day, and most things he taught himself. He re-upholstered many pick-up, tractor and truck seats in his day and could always figure out what was wrong with Elda’s sewing machine. Alvin was known for his good memory, doing math in his head and ingenuity to figure things out relying on his eight grade education. He was fond of telling his grandchildren he liked sixth grade so much he decided to take it twice. He very much enjoyed going to auction sales and generally managed to come home with a pick-up box full of deals and treasures. Alvin is survived by his son, Steve (Pamela) Guenthner Beulah, ND; son-in-law, Carlyle Bohrer Mandan ND; granddaughters, Lisa (Rob) Pfennig Bismarck, ND, Petra (Todd) Johnson Lancaster, WI, Tasie Guenthner (Mark Anderson) Franklin, KY and grandson, Robert (Wendy) Bohrer, Mandan ND; four great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons; one sister, Frieda Wells; brothers, Byron (Arlene), Duane (Mary Ann), Harry (Delores), Ted, John (Nancy); brothers-in-law, Gordon Arthurs, Vernon Mohl, Clarence (Ardella) Wiedrich, Hilmer Weidrich, Myron (Helen) Wiedrich and Hubert Sailer; sisters-in-law, Tarlene Cox, Arlene Reichenberg and Bonny Miller; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elda; daughter, Phyllis; sister, Edna; brothers, Raymond and Howard; three infant siblings. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, Sakakawea Hospice and Sakakawea Medical Center. Arrangements conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Hazen and Beulah.
