(Allie) Hewes, prominent farmer and business man of Ingalls, Kansas was found dead at his home last Wednesday morning, having passed away during the night. Allie, as he was known to everyone, was well and favorably known to a large circle of friends and business associates. He had been in business in Ingalls for a number of years, and after selling out and retiring from the active management of the Farmers Elevator in Ingalls, he continued to be active in helping with the management of the Farmers State Bank in Ingalls, and the handling of his various farming interests. He was born February 18, 1882 at Payson, IL., and came to Garfield twp in Finney county with his parents as a child. He married Bertha May Crick at Kingman, KS on February 23, 1907. He and his wife moved to a farm north of Ingalls in 1912. Seven years later they moved to Ingalls and he purchased the elevator there. He was president of the Farmers State Bank of Ingalls at the time of his death. Mr. Hewes was preceded in death by two sons, Rex E. and George R. Survivors include the widow, of the home; a son, James D. Hewes of Ingalls; four daughters, Mrs. Rachel O'Neal, Ingalls; Mrs. Hazel Davidson, Dodge City; Mrs. Alene Fisher, Leoti, and Mrs. Audrey Strawn, Ingalls; 12 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Earnest and Tom, both of Ingalls; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Houk of Liberal and Mrs. Annie Seig of Portland, Oregon. The funeral was held Saturday, July 7, at the Federated Church in Ingalls, Rev. Robert Strasburg officiating. Burial was in the Cimarron cemetery.
