She departed this life on February 5th at the Good Samaritan Home, Dodge City at the age of 81 years. Mrs. Houk was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cimarron and the V.F.W. Auxillary. She departed this life on February 5th at the Good Samaritan Home, Dodge City at the age of 81 years. Mrs. Houk was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cimarron and the V.F.W. Auxillary. She moved to western Kansas at an early age and was united in marriage in 1907 to William (Jeff) Houk and to their union 8 children were born. Preceding her in death was her husband, Jeff Houk; a son, Cecil Houk, and two daughters, Phyllis and Peggy. Survivors include: 3 sons: Luther, William Jr. and Eugene; 2 daughters: Minnie and Mary; 24 grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, 14 great grandchilddren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 8th at the First Christian Church with Rev. Bob Thurber and Rev. Ernest Leterer in charge. Burial was in Cimarron cemetery. "She has gone our darling mother, Gone to dwell with God in Heaven, There will be one vacant chair. Dear friends, oh how we sadly miss her, As she is laid from us away, But we hope in Heaven to meet her, at the close of one bright day. All her earthly toils are over, Oh how well her part she bore, In her lonely grave she sleepeth. Ne'er to wake on this shore. Through our tears we saw her dying, And we felt angels were near, In that solemn autumn twilight, For these sons we seemed to hear, We looked upon that angel brow, Death's touch had made more fair. And in those gentle closing eyes, The light of Heaven was there, One fading smile one look of love, And llife's last tie was riven, Alas, then we were left to mourn, While her spirit fled to Heaven. Farewell, dear one, until that day, The savior calls us to come - For we know that when this life is o'er, We will be with thee forever more"
