Raised in the Nora and Nelson areas, he graduated from Nelson High School. On April 23, 1942, at Mankato, he married Ada Mae Leeson. They resided in Edgar the last 54 years. Alvin worked for Shuck drilling and Edgar Propane. After retirement he mowed and did lawn work. Preceding him in death were his parents, sons, Dennis Leroy and David Earl; a sister, Erna Sissel and one grandson. Survivors include his wife, Ada; daughters, Linda Sample, Edgar, Mrs. Maynard Crispin (Nancy), Omaha; Mrs. Bob Coy (Donna), Magnolia, Texas; a son, Steven, Lincoln, Neb.; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Harold, Wallport, Ore.; and Robert, Washington State. Services are today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at the Edgar Christian Church, with the Rev. Harold Fox officiating. Interment will be in the Edgar Cemetery at Edgar. He passed away Sunday, February 11, 2001, at the Rose Brook Skilled Services in Edgar, Nebraska, at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 19 days. He grew up in the Nora and Nelson areas. Alvin graduated from Nelson High School in 1938. April 23, 1942, at Mankato, Kansas, Alvin was united in marriage to Ada Mae Leeson. This union was blessed with six children. The couple resided in Edgar for the last 54 years. Alvin worked for Shuck Drilling and Edgar Propane. After retirement he could be seen all over Edgar, mowing yards and doing lawn work. This kept him busy until failing health necessitated his moving to Rose Brook Nursing Home in Edgar. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sons, Dennis Leroy and David Earl; a sister, Erna Sissel; and a grandson, Merle. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Ada; three daughters, Linda Sample of Edgar, Nebraska, Nancy Crispin and her husband Maynard of Omaha, Nebraska, and Donna Coy and Bob of Magnolia, Texas; one son, Steven Jensen and his wife Sandy of Lincoln, Nebraska; two brothers, Harold Jensen and his wife Nancy of Wallport, Oregon, and Robert Jensen of Washington State; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Funeral services were Thursday, February 15, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Edgar Christian Church in Edgar, Nebraska, with Rev. Harold Fox officiating. Music was "Good Night and Good Morning" and "The Old Rugged Cross" with Carol Shambaugh as soloist and Carlita Price as organist. Interment was in Edgar Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Jason Crispin, Duane Sample, Ron Sample, Ryan Sample, Forrest Coy, Chris Hughes and Aaron Hughes.
