Loghry was born at Oglan, O., September 1, 1841, and died at Geneva, Neb., November (Armistice Day) 1924, aged 83 years 2 months, and 10 days. He enlisted in the service of his country at Kankakee, Ill., December 1, 1861, shortly after the beginning of hostilities, in Company H, 53rd regiment. After serving his time, he re-enlisted as a veteran in the same company at Hebron. , Miss., February 1, 1864 for a period of three years, or the duration of the war. The war closed in April, 1865, and he was mustered out of the army July 22, 1865. He and his bride came to Nebraska in 1869 and settled on a farm north of Geneva where they labored together until the death of Mrs. Loghry in November, 1901. He then retired from the farm and came to live in Geneva where he has made his residence ever since. Six children came to bless the union, three sons, and three daughters. One daughter, Florence, afterwards Mrs. J.B. Morgan, died ten years ago. One son, James, lives in California, and was not able to be present at the funeral. The remaining four children are Mrs. J. F. McLaughlin of Fremont, Neb., Thomas of Maywood, William of Geneva, and Mrs. Cyrus Walker, also of Geneva. Nephews are J. H. Loghry of Maywood, Neb., L. P. Loghry of Geneva, and Robert Williams of Maywood, Neb. Guy Gardiner and Charles Gardiner, both of Maywood, Neb., children of the deceased's niece, and one brother, Amos of Bagley, Ia., the only surviving brother, were able to attend. Twelve grandchildren survive him; a few of whom were present at the service. Mr. Loghry was one of five brothers who answered the call of their country's need, all of whom have now been mustered out of this early life, except Amos, named above. Mr. Loghry must be ranked among the pioneers of Fillmore county. It was in a covered wagon he and his wife came fifty-five years ago. They passed through all the hard experiences which only pioneers know. He was a member of the local Methodist church and for some time served on the official board of the church. He passed away suddenly without a warning on the morning of Armistice day, having attained to a ripe old age. One more veteran has fallen out of the ranks, making one more grave to be decorated next time. The grim reaper, taking a heavier toll each year of these gallant sons of the republic. The day is not far distant when the last of them will be mustered out. In the meantime, let us honor the living and respect the dead. A large concourse of people came together of Thursday, November 13, to pay the last tribute of respect to his remains. The services were conducted by Rev. David Tudor of the congregational church in the unavoidable absence of Rev. D. T. Morton, the deceased's pastor. A loving tribute was paid the deceased for his patriotic services when his county was in need. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal, 1924.
