Her death record gives November 29, 1849 as her birth date. Amanda Weir married Jacob Minchk on February 15, 1875 in Prairie Du Chien, Crawford County, Wisconsin. Amanda Weir married Jacob Minchk on February 15, 1875 in Prairie Du Chien, Crawford County, Wisconsin. Their first three surviving children were born in Allamakee Cnty, Iowa. Around 1885 the family moved to the McGregor, Mendon Twp, Clayton Cnty, Iowa area along with other members of the Weir family. Their son Fred was born in Clayton County, Iowa around 1886. Jacob Minchk applied for a disabled veteran's pension in June of 1883. By the time of the 1895 census, he was no longer living with his family in Mendon Twp, Clayton Cnty, Iowa. In early 1918 he was admitted for a time to the Sawtelle California Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. He stated that he was a widower and had been living in the Fresno, California area prior to his admission. He listed his closest relative as his daughter Ada (Minchk) Webster living at Cresco (Howard Cnty), Iowa. Jakob was discharged from the Sawtelle home May 7, 1918. Amanda raised their children in the area of McGregor, Mendon Twp, Clayton Cnty, Iowa. She applied for a widow's pension on May 4, 1920. She is buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in McGregor, Mendon Twp, Clayton Cnty, Iowa.
