Description	:	Henry Weir was born in Ireland, although some of his children were sure he had been born in Scotland. In the 1850 Census he was age 30; in the 1860 Census he was age 36; in the 1870 Census he was age 55; in the 1880 Census he was age 69; and in the 1885 Census he was age 70. In the June 30, 1900 Census he was age 78, born October 1822. His death record of August 1, 1900 says he died at the age of 77. Henry Weir married Hannah Jane Dodd on April 18, 1848 in Gratiot, Lafayette Cnty, Wisconsin. She was about age 17 and he may have been about age 25. They soon moved to Allamakee Twp., Allamakee County, Iowa before the birth of their first child Amanda in late 1849 or early 1850, apparently the first of Hannah's family to settle in that area and where their ten known children were born. On March 28, 1856 Henry Weir's naturalization papers were filed at Waukon, Allamakee Cnty, Iowa. In the 1860 Census they were living in Taylor Twp in Allamakee County, Iowa but just across the line from Allamakee Township, with a Post Office of Waterville. In the 1870 census Henry and Hannah Jane Weir and their children were living in Taylor Twp, Allamakee Cnty, Iowa, with Harpers Ferry as their Post Office. In the 1880 and 1885 Census they were living in Lansing Twp, Allamakee Cnty, Iowa. In the Census records, Hannah is called Hannah, Anna, Jane, Jean and Mary J. In the on-line extraction of the 1850 Census their last name is coded as "Wear," and Henry is coded as born in Missouri (the hand-written word could be "Irl"). Shortly after the 1885 census, the family moved to the area of McGregor, Mendon Twp, Clayton Cnty, Iowa. Their son George seems to have the first Weir record in the McGregor area, with his marriage on July 6, 1885 to Hannah Eleza McKeller. Even the older married Weir children made the move to McGregor, Clayton Cnty, Iowa in 1885. The 1895 Census lists daughter Mrs. Amanda Minchk and her four children living in Mendon Twp. next to her parents Henry and Hannah Jane Weir with the two youngest Weir sons Ithiel and David still at home. By the 1900 Census Henry Weir was living with Ithiel and Christina Weir, who stated that Henry was age 78. Hannah Jane was living with David and Anna Weir. Both Henry and Hannah Jane are listed in the 1900 Census as having been married 52 years. Henry died on August 1, 1900 in rural Mendon Twp, Clayton Cnty, Iowa (near McGregor). Hannah Jane died November 25, 1901 in the same area. Both are buried at McGregor, Iowa.
