An exhaustive search of the parish registers and civil registrations in the area of St. Constant, St. Philippe, LaPrairie, and surrounding parishes, has provided no possible baptismal records of her. Philip MAY (Philippe Lemai) married Amelia (Emilie) Giroux 28 June 1841 in Penetanguishene, Simcoe County Ontario A PIONEER GONE In the death of Mrs. Philip May on Saturday morning last the island lost one of the first of those who began the pioneer work of settlement. Coming to the Island 67 years ago with her husband, they made their home here. Shortly after their arrival was born their oldest child, and the first white child born on the Manitoulin in the person of Mr. Humphrey May of this place. A large family was brought up of whom beside Mr. Humphrey May there still survive Mrs. L. Brandow of Green Bush, Mrs. John Dunlop of Sheguiandah, Mrs. Smith of Chicago and Mrs. Spence of Fort William. After a long and busy life she died as she lived – honoured, trusted, and loved. She reared her own monument in the hearts of her own friends. For the past few years she made her home with her daughter. Mrs. Jno. Dunlop but was a frequent visitor among the homes of her children and grand children. The beautiful burial service of the Anglican Church of which she was a member was read in Holy Trinity on Sunday afternoon by the Rev. C. Simpson and at the cemetery by Rev. G. Prewer of Sheguiandah, and Mr. Simpson. Thus another name is stricken from the roll of our old settlers at the age of 86 years. Her husband died about 14 years ago.
